Community Exhibits

Quilt Show and Auction

The 2024 Quilt show is sponsored by All Makes Vacuum and Sewing Center & Maxwell Farms

Rules:

1. All entries must be made in last 2 years and must be hand or machine-pieced by a Monongalia County resident.

2. All entries must be clean and in good condition.

3. All entries larger than 54”x 75” must have a 3-inch pocket sewn along the top of the quilt or wall hanging to support the weight evenly for display.

4. Entries must be delivered and/or picked up in person at the exhibit building.  A claim ticket will be issued for each entry and will be required to be presented at the time of pick-up by the exhibitor or designee. If your claim ticket is lost, photo identification will be required to release your items.

a. On-site registration will be Sunday August 18th, 12-4pm at Mon County Center, 270 Mylan Park Lane, Morgantown, WV 26502.

b. Pick-up of all entries will be on Sunday, August 25th, 12-4pm at the Mon County Center

5. Classes or Categories will be assigned at the time of registration. Judges and/or Fair staff may reassign entries to a more appropriate division and/or class.

6. The same entry cannot compete in multiple classes or categories.

7. Although reasonable efforts are taken to safeguard the exhibitor’s property against loss, damage, or theft, the Monongalia County Fair is not responsible for any loss, damage or theft of exhibitor’s property brought on the premises during the period of the Monongalia County Fair.  Every precaution will be taken in the handling and exhibiting of entries.

8. The Monongalia County Fair reserves the right to amend and/or add to these rules and provides Inside Exhibits Committee with the final and absolute right to interpret all rules and regulations and arbitrarily settle and determine all matters, questions and differences in regard thereto.

9. All entries agree to remain on display for the duration of the fair.

10. Quilt entries are limited to 3 per person. 

Display only:

1. Heirloom quilts or items that do not meet the criteria listed are still invited to be shared.  These entries may be submitted for display only and will be tagged as such.  Written information and history of the quilt on display is encouraged and can be included with your quilt entry. 

Auction:

The Monongalia County Fair will be hosting its first Quilt Auction in 2024!  We want to grow our show and offer more premiums as we move forward, and we can help each other in the process!

1. Entrants will be given the option to commission their quilt entries for auction at registration.

2. The quilt auction will close on Saturday, August 24th, 2024 at 9pm.  Bids will be accepted via silent auction. Items will be available for pickup by winning bidders on Sunday, August 25th, 2024 between 12-4pm, at which time payment will be collected.  

3. Quilters will be permitted to place a minimum allowable bid on their item.

4. Monongalia County Fair Quilt Show will retain a 10% commission fee.  The remaining 90% is yours to keep!

Awards:

1. Awards will be presented.  All awards are granted at the discretion of the judges.

a. Ribbons and premiums will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each class, provided that the class has multiple entries.

b. Best of Division Rosette and premium will be awarded to one first place winner in each division.

c. Best in Show will be awarded to one item in the show.  A rosette and premium will be awarded.

d. People’s Choice will be awarded and winning item will be based on votes from general public.  A rosette and premium will be awarded. 

f. Youth quilting division will be judged and awarded separate from the main quilting divisions

                   i.      Class 1: Junior youth, up to 12 years of age by January 1

                  ii.      Class 2: Senior youth, 13-18 years of age by January 1
